About Us

Wellspring property was purchased in 1979 by Zen Master Min Pai in order to build a Rinzai Zen Monastery. In the beginning, since there was no building, we began traditional work practice in the Zen spirit, while preparing landscaping for the Monastery.

Our Zazen practice was done on a regular basis, outside on the property often under extreme weather conditions. We would also have Sesshins at members’ homes, as well as Master Pai’s martial arts studio Yun Mu Kwan in New York City.

People came from Westchester and Fairfield Counties, New York City, from all over the country, and for that matter, all over the world! Many of our members from martial arts backgrounds came to the Monastery with the intention of furthering their training by incorporating Zen into their lives. People of all different religions and cultures were always welcome to practice Zazen with us at the Monastery. All joined in helping with the building’s construction. At its completion in 1986, our previous schedule of morning service, daylong, weekend, weeklong, and Rohatsu Sesshins began along with work practice, only now it was all in our own beautiful building on our own property!

Today our schedule remains unchanged.
